The provost is asking each dean, vice chancellor and vice provost to identify and implement 2-5 process improvements within their unit over the next year to ensure that we are best using the time and talents of our employees toward our mission.
Culture of Continuous Improvement
One of our initial investments will further support Lean Six Sigma efforts and resources on campus.
To assist in this process, each of the campus leaders will be provided a list of relevant suggestions that were submitted to the IDEA$ at Work campaign, which may be helpful in identifying potential improvements to focus on. That said, process improvements for this request will not be limited to this list, and improvement projects already underway can potentially be part of this effort.
In particular, staff members who have been trained in Lean Six Sigma practices may be called on to provide support in improving processes to reduce waste, improve quality and enhance performance. UC Davis currently has more than 120 staff members who have earned their Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma training, a 14-week course that will be offered again this year for additional staff members.
The Office of Business Transformation, part of Administrative Innovations and Technology, will also be available to provide guidance, advice, and some assistance with projects you identify. In addition to being Lean Six Sigma Black Belts, this team also supports the UC Davis Lean Community of Practice, which can provide additional resources and support for these efforts.
